Entomology

Entomology is the scientific study of insects, a fascinating and diverse group of animals that make up the largest class of organisms on Earth. Entomologists examine the biology, behavior, ecology, and evolution of insects, as well as their interactions with humans and other animals. Insects play important roles in our ecosystems as pollinators, decomposers, and prey for other organisms, but they can also be pests that damage crops and transmit diseases. As such, entomology has significant implications for agriculture, public health, and conservation. At the university, students can explore the field of entomology through courses, research opportunities, and hands-on experiences, and gain valuable skills and knowledge that can be applied to a range of careers in science, agriculture, environmental management, and beyond.

History

The Department Entomology was established in 1980 in Agriculture Faculty at Rawalakot under the umbrella of University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The postgraduate program was started in 2006 and Ph.D. degree program was initiated in 2007.

Mission & Vission

Vision

Our vision is to be a leading academic department in the field of entomology, committed to advancing the science of insects and their relationships with humans and the environment. We strive to promote a sustainable and healthy environment for all through research, education, and outreach programs that foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the role insects play in our world.

Mission

The mission of the Department of Entomology is to conduct cutting-edge research that advances our understanding of the biology and ecology of insects, and to use this knowledge to develop sustainable solutions for pest management and environmental conservation. We are committed to providing a comprehensive education in entomology to our students, and to engaging in outreach activities that promote the importance of insects and their role in our world. Our department is dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive community of scholars and professionals who are passionate about the science of insects and its practical applications

Message From HOD

We are a community of researchers, educators, and outreach specialists who are passionate about the study of insects and their interactions with the world around us. As the Head of the Department, I am committed to ensuring that our department remains at the forefront of research and education in entomology. Our faculty members are recognized experts in their fields, and their research addresses a wide range of topics, including insect ecology, physiology, behavior, and management. Our undergraduate and graduate programs provide students with a comprehensive education in the science of insects, and prepare them for careers in research, industry, government, and education. We are proud of our graduates, many of whom have gone on to successful careers in academia, industry, and government. In addition to our research and education programs, we are also committed to outreach and engagement with the wider community. We work closely with farmers, policymakers, and the public to provide information and expertise on issues related to insect management, biodiversity, and conservation.
